I think more people need to stand up and say something about what they feel and believe. Although it needs to be done kindly.
But it also bothers me when people rudely comment- more of a personal attack. Why read that blog if you don't like that person or what they are about?
Great advice above to walk away before commenting.
And people need to just chill.

Finally had some time to blog surf. Hey Steph!

I believe the comments function in a blog is there only for one reason: to drive people crazy. I read/heard someone say once, very wisely (I think it was last year's blogher in Chicago), that when you read something on a blog that you disagree with/pisses you off, you need to walk away for about 15 mins before commenting to calm your mind and organise your thoughts before saying something you wouldn't otherwise say IRL to a friend.

I thought it was great advice. I too had a tendency to shoot my mouth, afraid I might lose the "moment" to show the world what my great mind thought.

Of course, it's easier said than done.

Great blog, lady.

I had a friend read my first comment prior to posting and she thought it was fine. Another one read it after I posted it and she said it was too personal (I used "I" and "us" instead of being more general as I intended), so I apologise. I didn't mean for it to sound like I was directing anything towards YOU specifically, but I don't KNOW you so for me it's just not possible to be firends at this point. Maybe a few more posts down the road we'll find a common ground and can build on that. But just to be realistic I must say I don't have many conservative friends.
